According to news reports last week a staggering 1,000 bags still go missing at Heathrow's Terminal 5 everyday. Unfortunate passengers travelling from this terminal are around three times more likely to suffer the inconvenience of delayed baggage compared to passengers flying with British Airways from other terminals and UK airports.
Two leading travel insurers are reminding holidaymakers to make sure theyre insured against this kind of disruption to their holiday.
With the risk of having a bag delayed running at 11-1, ASDA Financial Services is calling on passengers to ensure they are adequately protected against such an eventuality.
Gideon Ingham, ASDA Financial Services comments: ''Taking out adequate travel insurance shouldn't be seen as an optional extra, but an essential must-have. Travellers face all sorts of risks when they go on holiday from falling sick to having their baggage delayed and could end up seriously out of pocket and inconvenienced if they don't take out cover.''
American Express Insurance Services is encouraging more Brits to consider the cost saving benefits of an annual travel insurance policy rather than a single trip one, while preparing for a holiday abroad.
Recent research has revealed that more than 8 in 10 (85%) British travellers are buying insurance in preparation for their holiday and 69 per cent are intending to buy an annual multi-trip policy over the next 12 months.
