Stock Exchange-Secondary Listing

Additional Services

Stock Exchange-secondary listing. Companies can, and often are, quoted on more than one stock exchange.

So for example, BT may have its main listing in London but also have a secondary listing in New York. A company may choose to list in additional centres as a way of raising its profile in that country.

Often, foreign companies will secure a listing on Wall Street through an American Depository Receipt (ADR) - a mechanism for US investors to hold foreign shares.

There are a number of leading foreign companies who have secondary quotes in London although the volume of trading in these companies is often very low.
